A faction is a group of players who are working together in the campaign. A faction will control a number of planets, produce units and store units in the faction hangar, and will have various objectives for winning the [[cycle]].

In the current cycle, which began February 2017, the primary factions are the [[Free Worlds League]], the [[Capellan Confederation]], and the [[Andurien-Canopus Alliance]]. The [[Periphery]] is also a faction, but it has different operations and rules, and generally has less of a role to play in the fight over land that the other factions focus on. The [[Solaris Training Company]] is the rookie faction, which houses new players until they have mastered MegaMek and graduated to a major house.
