Thanks, Deadweight, for putting these all on one place. There are some scary assault vees in there and that Roc from McMadMax would be great fun for delivering a bunch of nasty infantry next to a camping enemy with the added bonus that it would be hell on enemy infantry.

I'm kind of curious about how useful the Vehicular Grenade Launchers (VGLs) are. They seem like a weapon that could be good in theory but hard to use in practice. I see the Centaur has four of them, so someone must find them useful.

Last time I checked, MegaMek wouldn't allow more than one infantry unit to be loaded into a carrier. Anyone know if this has been fixed? If not, the Roc won't be nearly as useful.

They seem pretty useful as a one-shot weapon. They basically autohit the 3 adjacent hexes in their firing arc (or 2 side-hexes in this case, I guess?) and do 1d6 damage to any conventional infantry that are there.

2d6, actually, but that damage is only to conventional infantry & support vehicles (they can damage support vehicles with BAR < 5, damage = 5 - BAR). That's for fragmentation. I mean, sure, if your opponent stacked up enough infantry and your vehicle got them into the right hex, you could do quite a bit of damage (that's the theoretical aspect of the weapon being great), but I feel like, in practice, that's not likely to happen.

The auto-hit nature of VGLs, and the fact that they hit everything in the 3 adjacent hexes of the firing arc is their biggest bonus. However, fragmentation grenades really only damage conventional infantry. VGLs seem to be designed as a defensive weapon, but if a vehicle is getting attacked by infantry it seems like the infantry would want to be *in* the hex of the vehicle, since that's generally the most advantageous position for the infantry since the vehicle can't fire back. Seems like VGLs would be much better as a defensive weapon if they hit the 3 adjacent hexes *and* the hex the vehicle occupies, but perhaps this conflicts with A-Pods (can vehicles use A-pods?).

Incendiary grenades are also kind of lack-luster, in that they only apply the effects of 1 inferno to each unit hit, which generally isn't much by itself. I guess if you have 4 or 5 VGLs, you could annoy a 'mech that was going for a kick. But, then you're using a sizeable chunk of your one-shot weapons.

The most useful munition seems like it would be smoke rounds, but I feel like you could get more mileage out of an SRM launcher in that case.

Chaff grenades are really cool, but since they only last 1 round, they seem difficult to use effectively (yet again, good in theory, but not so much in practice).

I designed it more as a fluff piece and some thing maximized for usefulness. The Succession Wars (in canon) are largely fought by conventional forces. So armies are likely to come across waves of infantry, as opposed to Lances of BattleMechs. The VGLs are sorely under-utilized in canon configs, so it seemed like a good platform to stretch them out a bit.

Though, as a side note, infantry are far more deadly to artillery pieces than most 'Mechs. Given that their damage is dealt in 2-damage clusters, they're extremely likely to inflict motive crits, where the average 'Mech may get 1-3 hits in a turn, total. A single, piddley platoon of 150 BV can take out a tank 5x its value with a few 'plinks.' So a little self-defense is certainly in order. :)

I had a suspicion that was the case. I certainly like the VGLs as a fluff weapon (I did implement them afterall). The idea of popping smoke to hide a tank, or just saturating an area of fragmentation grenades. It strikes some pretty cool images, but it's sad that the weapons seem to fall short in usefulness (I tend to dislike one-shot weapons in general).

Depends on the unit file i guess, if it says X-tons you can place as many platoons as you like, as long as its within the weigh limit.
Problem comes with the Heavy APCs that have 1-platoon bay that stop you from putting 2-LRM infantry into a 6-ton bay.
