Fire!!!!!!!!!!!!

As I mentioned in the for the Sept 2021 cycle announcement, due to real life commitments, this cycle has been a fairly subtle change from the cycle before. Development for the next cycle is very much underway, however, and something I will be rolling out periodically are some features I want to test.

One of these tests, I've implemented today—I've turned on fires, which can now be set both intentionally and accidentally. Because the TacOps fire rules generate heavy smoke—something that I consider game breaking—I've also decided to use a special setting where fires won't generate smoke.

My hope these settings will provide a few more tactical options for dealing with opponents who camp in woods or in buildings.

Also, fire is just awesome. Who doesn't like fire?

Anyway, I've already tested this in-game and I can confirm it works as intended. Look forward to hearing your feedback!

This post attempts to clear up some of the ambiguity that has sprung up around setting fire to buildings, and that due to a bug, burning buildings DO create smoke. It will be moved to Rules and Announcements once i'm made an actual forum moderator. In the meantime, please treat this post as a mod ruling.

The intent from Jackal is that "these settings will provide a few more tactical options for dealing with opponents who camp in woods or in buildings." However, Jackal considers smoke to be something game breaking.

You may still set fire to buildings, for example to flush out camping units. However, setting fire to buildings to create smoke cover is completely opposite of what Jackal intended. Therefore, please do not do that. You should also not set fire to woods in the hope that the fire would spread to a building, thus creating smoke cover.

In other words, your INTENT for setting the building fire, matters. Do not set a single fire with the intent of creating smoke.

Staff Question.

Assuming a fire is set for valid tactical reasons (for example, a building with infantry on the roof is set on fire), can you still use the smoke for cover? I would assume the answer is yes, but I would like some additional Admin/Mod opinion on this. Thank you.

As far as possible one should avoid using smoke for cover or to block LOS, even if the fire was set for legitimate purposes.
