Something that can be enabled or disabled in the SO server settings, like payout modifiers. I just got my test server up and running locally. Probably spend the next month breaking things to figure out the code. Worst case, if I dont get anywhere productive i'll just turn the test server into my original idea.

The game actually gives fairly significant rewards for playing games against Solaris players - you count double for faction production, I think you get bonus RP, and of course your units don't die. For a top-notch player it might not be as good as fighting for your faction, but for a mediocre or outright bad player, it's pretty appealing.

I doubt very much anyone will force you into a faction.
Never had much, grew up with nothing
But the music, well it was something

World that keeps on spinning on a turntable.

I certainly feel that someone playing me in SOL is not going to get the walkover they were getting at the end of the last cycle when I was down to my last 4 units.
I think, for the 3025 server, we should not be encouraging 'true noobs' to leave SOL as soon as they can.

I don't think we encourage "noobs" to leave SOL as much as that new players grasp very quickly that this is not just a matchmaking server but a campaign server and want to be part of the greater team based effort, despite their actual skill level.

Speaking for myself, simple matchmaking gets boring quickly without a "greater good" despite the quality of the game itself.

Personally, and I know I'm in the minority among old school TT players, I think the only server I really enjoyed coming to was McWizard's original MMN back in ~2001. For the following reasons:

(As I recall)
- No inf, vees, aero. Just good old mek combat.
- Limited, simple rules.
- No planets. Find an opponent, play a game.
- Redonk terrains were few and far between.
- Due to the lack of he above, finding and playing through a 4mek vs. 4mek battle could be done in an hour... maybe 90 minutes.

Yeah it was a clicky, but it was convenient and fun.

Got any updates for us?

Not really, been side tracked with my limited time being spent working on a few things for gunny. Honestly the 'noob server', if there was a point to one, should be just as ajax describes. But ultimately pointless so long as new players are guided to the 3025 server to sink or swim.

I think this is a general BTech thing, not necessarily MMNet specific.
