new player guides?

Post by Nastyogre »

There are a lot of pieces and parts out there. Between what we have in the new player section plus what I know exists in the FS forum and I bet in other factions as well, we could make a solid new player section.

Anybody wanna give this a shot? Perhaps a member that hasn't tackled something yet?
I would probably ask for temporary access to other faction forums (since we are between cycles anyway) if we know other factions have good guides. We have several FS players to pull out our info.

I don't want to give away the trade secrets but I want to pull just the new player info to use.

I'd PM the other faction heads with your idea, let them send you the content. That, or one of the admins or mods could do it... I'd be very loath to grant that kind oif extra access, but that may just be me.

Got a good idea to add to MekWars? We'd love to hear about it. (from that page, go to "Tickets", then "Feature Requests")

If others want to decide what to send, and do the work of collecting it, that's fine. If we can get them to.

Realistically, you could get the info by simply consecutively defecting to the houses. Its not a secret really. What stops that is the campaign effect of defecting after leaving SOL. There isn't info to coordinate cycle strategy that is relevant, so getting access to the other forums doesn't mean much.

All that said, if the staff or faction leaders want to send it to the wiki team. I don't think any of us would mind.

Just so you know: apart from FS, none of the factions currently have anything resembling a newbie guide in their forum sections. CC used to have quite a nice one in the old forums, but it got lost with the transition, sadly.

Never had much, grew up with nothing
But the music, well it was something
Been down and out, I've been on top of the world,
World that keeps on spinning on a turntable.

The passwords the same for those archives? Can I even get into the older one? It predates me entirely.

I just want to say that I'm VERY interested in putting together a new player guide. I wrote a lot of the documents in the FS forum and have written many things like it over the years. I'd love to assemble them all in a nice neat package for new players.

All that said, I'm am expecting to great my new son any day now, so I don't know how much work I can put into in the immediate term. If you guys don't mind a slowish roll out, I think I could have something pretty nice put together over the course of the next 2-3 months.

Wow Jackal congratulations! A brave thing to bring little ones into this world. I have two myself and they are a constant source of joy, wonderment and frustration. ;-)

I would like to see something out for the new cycle. That said, I am familiar with your work and would love your input. Perhaps we can use you as an editor more than a writer? That would probably take less time.

I am working on apply for a new job tonight but I will see what I can do about starting some pages for the info.

Gratz, Jackal!

Nice thing about any new player guide that gets put together is that it will be very easy to maintain and keep updated on the wiki versus constantly getting lost in the forums.

It was an accidental casualty to a forum clean up. I incorrectly merged it and then thinking I had merged it into another post, deleted it.
Not my best day. Did that with a couple of them apparently, though it was the only one of any value. I am sorry.

Thank you for your understanding. I hate showing the stupid part of "big, stuipd, hairy ogre."
