Wiki team

Post by Spork »

I've asked Nastyogre to coordinate this project, as I simply don't have time.

Currently, our team consists of the following people:

Nastyogre
Gottloser
Jackal
Jellybean
Klingon
McMadMax
Saint
Spork
Never had much, grew up with nothing
But the music, well it was something
Been down and out, I've been on top of the world,
World that keeps on spinning on a turntable.

Go team MekMekNetWiki (corrected)

First order of business is to thank you all for the commitment to get this put together.

2nd, I am coordinting this, I'm not "da boss." I will help frame discussions, scope out and organize the work. I really want this to be very collaborative. Will an individual article need to be written? Sure, we will all need to do that. We will each be asked to proof-read, help ensure proper sourcing when we use catalyst game labs material, and other stuff.

I would ask that we all spend a little time looking over the old wkik development pages and some into making a wiki. Could we do that by the 1st of next week?

I will write up an initial project plan (not overly formal) and we can talk about it and make sure we catch everything. Then we can start sharing out the work.

I really do want to make things "bite sized" so we can make progress without herculean efforts.

Thanks again guys. We can do a real service for our community here. I am excited to see it develop.

One small correction. It's team MegaMekNETWiki. The MekWars Wiki is an entirely different (and not yet started) project.

Oops. Yes. Titling is important. ;-)

Holy poop saint. Just jump in!
No problem. Any start an inertia is a good thing.

If you can provide me with info about what needs to be written, I'm happy to help. I just don't want to sift through whatever has been written till I find out what's needed, or write a lengthy article just to find out that there's already one.

What I mean to say is: you give me instructions and I'll give you texts.

I went back through the info that is found on the wiki currently. Its not much. A bit on what MekNET is, a bit on Operations, a bit on installation and LJP terrain examples. I don't find anything else.

Then looked at what Spork instructed us to create and in what priority. I took a mental break from my work at work today and scoped out a few things.

I envision a few different ways we will write our articles.

1st: Primary writer. with two separate reviewers. Primary goes and makes the corrections. Article posted. Committee says yea or nay. Approved, pass to Spork/Mentawl for final approval and edits, (or they rubber stamp it once were are polished enough) Its marked as final.

2nd. Primary and secondary writer. (perhaps for a bigger article) 1 reviewer. Primary and secondary edit each others works. Work passed down to committee etc etc.

3rd: Full or most of team writes article: Participating members edit and proof. Passed to committee etc etc. (This would be for really big articles that no one or two people could write, I hope few articles are like this. If they are we should probably be looking at breaking it up, but it is possible that a single cohesive article could be huge)

I will have the old-old wiki up this weekend. There is a *ton* of information there that can be source-copied, including all terrain information.

I've also updated the wiki link. So www.mekwars.org/wiki now takes you to the right place.

So, then... Good headway was made, and then things seem to have stalled. I will accept part of the blame, for not getting Stalker back up and running, but some team members have not submitted even a single change yet.

Is everyone working on something?

I will accept some blame. I've been kinds of waiting to see how the ops shake out.
I will work on the terrain piece further.

If we have ops, factions, terrain, campaign rules, manifesto. You think we have enough to publish a "basic version" of the wiki and then decide what to work on next?

Ditto, I've been waiting for the new campaign to start before finishing the install and getting started sections, since they are screenshot heavy.

I made real headway on the mechanics page...:)
EDIT. Those who know what was edited, will also already know why. 'nuff said. :)

Got a good idea to add to MekWars? We'd love to hear about it. (from that page, go to "Tickets", then "Feature Requests")

Yah... I knew that, but I also know He Who Shall Not Be Named really doesn;t read the forums much; that being said, my comment could be viewed as being disrespectful, so I'll remove it.

So, who is up for continuing to work on this?
I got caught up in play last cycle. I am keeping myself to working on this and play more equally. A stronger wiki gets more players. More players I can smash with my giant stompy robots.

Volunteer anew or recommit to the project. I just want to know who else is with me.

Got added to the team by Spork, and put up some basic strategies for BattleTech in general. I hope to expand to more things, and add some images at some point to help illustrate points.

I don't know enough about the campaign itself to help with that, unfortunately, but I'll add it as I learn :)
