Right so I've never played any mech-related board games or PC versions either. I'm totally new. I'm VERY interested in table top versions but am unclear about turns/phases, etc. IS MegaMek a good resource for learning? I'm very much interested in seeing the dice math similar to how you see dice rolls in DnD PC games.

it would be akin to learning to swim by jumping into the deep end. You can google "battletech quick start rules", there is a PDF you can download so you should at least read through that
