Camouflage, or camo for short, is a paint pattern applied to real world military units to reduce the visibility of the unit.

Usually, a camouflage pattern is a random patchwork of natural colors painted on the unit; the colors are carefully selected to match the environment where the unit is supposed to operate, in order to smoothly blend the unit into the environment, and thus be less visible from the enemy.

Example: DCMS - Izanagi Warriors
In MegaMek/MekWars/MegaMekNET, the camo patterns are simple graphic files superimposed to the unit pictures. They are not necessarily natural blend camouflage: they can also reproduce official paint schemes adopted by the various Inner Sphere batallions and regiments, or parade paintjobs, or even artistic flavored coloring figures and patterns.

The default MegaMekNET package includes 12 such camo patterns. The optional camo package contains a whopping 839 camo patterns. The player is always free to select a flat color for the units, select an official camo pattern, or even create and use his/her own patterns.

Example: CCAF - 1st Capellan Defense Force
For the last option to work, it's enough to put the 84x72 GIF or JPEG picture in the folder ./data/images/camo. Then use the button Change Camo in your hangar interface.

Be warned, however, that only locally available camo patterns will be shown in the MegaMek battlefield. If you have a specific camo picture, and your opponent has not, he/she won't be able to see your camo, and will see your units in either a flat yellow color, or a flat blue color.
